ZEIGLER, Ill. — Somebody in a van shot at least five cats dead in Zeigler on Sunday, and the police department wants the community's help finding out who.
Chief Childers' department posted a photo of the vehicle in question, asking anyone who recognizes it or its occupants to come forward, the Southern Illinoisan reported. In a separate post, the department confirmed at least five cats were killed and asked for help identifying both the van and whoever was riding in it.
It's a small town's kind of crime — the sort that doesn't make headlines outside the county line but rattles a neighborhood all the same. Somebody's pet, somebody's mouser, somebody's porch companion, gone for no reason anyone's offered yet. Zeigler PD isn't saying whether they suspect this was targeted or random, only that they want the van identified.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Zeigler Police Department. No arrests had been announced as of this writing.
