MARION, Ill. — The Williamson County Circuit Clerk has been forced to resign as part of a pretrial diversion agreement, KFVS12 reports.
A circuit clerk's office is the paper spine of the courthouse — dockets, filings, the record of every case that moves through Williamson County justice. When the person running it steps down under a diversion deal rather than face trial outright, it leaves a hole that has to be filled fast, and a question the public is owed an answer to: who runs the office now, and what exactly did the diversion require.
