MARION — A weapon turned up in a vehicle parked at Marion High School on Monday, after school administrators had already called police about a separate, unrelated matter, according to Marion Unit 2 Superintendent Becky Moss.
Details of what officers found, and what happens next for whoever owns that vehicle, are still coming into focus. But the sequence matters: this wasn't a tip about a gun. It started as something else entirely, and law enforcement found the weapon along the way, per the Southern Illinoisan.
Parents in this county have heard versions of this story before, and they deserve a straight accounting from the district on how it unfolded and what safeguards are in place going forward. Unit 2 has not laid out that timeline publicly yet.
