Veterans Bring Their Own Story to the Marion Stage
'Standard Issue,' a musical written by veterans, plays the Cultural and Civic Center
By Verna Slate, Williamson County Bureau
MARION - Not every show that hits the Civic Center stage comes from a road company with no connection to the people watching. 'Standard Issue,' a musical written by veterans, for veterans, is coming to the Marion Cultural and Civic Center, the Southern Illinoisan reports.
Williamson County has sent its share of sons and daughters into uniform, and the county's memory runs deep on what they carry home. A production built by people who lived it, rather than about them, is a different kind of booking for a hall more used to touring novelty acts and pageants - and it's the kind worth a folding chair and an evening downtown.
