MARION, Ill. — Friday marks 25 years since the Sept. 11 attacks sent shock waves throughout the country, according to Southern Illinoisan Local, and Marion's airport is among the places pausing to mark the anniversary.
A quarter century is long enough that most people working an airport counter today were children, or not yet born, when it happened. The day changed how the country thinks about flying, and airports big and small have carried that weight ever since.
