MARION — Tuesday night belonged to David Tallman. The Marion junior scored five goals as the Wildcats routed the Mount Vernon Rams 7-1 in boys soccer, according to the Southern Illinoisan.
Five goals in a single match is the kind of night that gets talked about at the gas station the next morning, and Tallman delivered it in front of the home crowd, carrying Marion to a lopsided win over a familiar regional rival.
The result gives the Wildcats momentum as conference play continues to heat up across southern Illinois this fall. Marion's front line, with Tallman leading the way, looks like it'll be a problem for opponents the rest of the season.
- filed from the sidelines, where the home crowd never sits down.
