Spain and Gibraltar Celebrate as Border Fence Comes Down Under Post-Brexit Deal
Treaty ends border checks on the last land frontier fence in western Europe after four years of talks

Spain and Gibraltar celebrated the fall of the last remaining frontier fence in western Europe after a post-Brexit treaty eliminating border checks took effect at midnight, The Guardian reported.
The agreement, signed in Brussels on Tuesday, ends controls for residents, tourists and the thousands of Spanish workers who cross into the British overseas territory each day. It caps more than four years of negotiations between the United Kingdom, Spain, Gibraltar and the European Union following Britain's departure from the bloc.
The deal resolves one of the thorniest unfinished pieces of Brexit, removing a physical barrier that has separated Gibraltar from Spain and restoring free movement across a frontier that had complicated daily life for workers and families on both sides since Britain left the EU.
