MARION — Monday night's city council meeting had an unusual guest list: visitors from Marion's sister city of Kanie, according to the Southern Illinoisan. The delegation, mayors included, sat in on the routine business of local government far from home.
Sister-city relationships are easy to shrug off as ceremony, but they've outlasted plenty of flashier initiatives this county has tried. For one night, at least, Marion's council chambers held two sets of officials answering to two very different constituencies.
No further details on the visit's agenda or the nature of the sister-city relationship were included in the available reporting.
