CARTERVILLE — A Carterville school board has moved to fire a coach charged with criminal sexual abuse, according to Capitol City Now.
The move follows the filing of criminal charges against the coach. Districts across this county have had to answer for coaches and staff before, and the pattern here is a familiar, grim one: charges come first, then the district's own reckoning with who it trusted around its kids.
The school board's action to terminate is a step, not a resolution — the criminal case will run its own course through the courts. Parents in Carterville, and anyone who's ever dropped a kid off at practice trusting the adult in charge, deserve to know how this case moves from here, and what the district's screening missed the first time around.
