Russia Pounds Kyiv With Massive Missile Barrage as Ukraine Strikes Back

Kremlin's assault on the capital kills at least one; Ukrainian drones hit targets deep inside Russia

Russia unleashed one of its largest missile barrages of the war on Kyiv overnight, killing at least one person in what President Volodymyr Zelensky called "one of the most massive ballistic attacks" on Ukraine's capital, the BBC reported.

The overnight assault underscored the intensifying, tit-for-tat air war between Moscow and Kyiv as the conflict grinds into its fifth year, with Ukraine answering with strikes deep inside Russian territory.

Ukraine's air force said Russia fired 41 missiles and 125 attack drones across the country overnight, according to NPR.

Kyiv's forces, in turn, have pressed a sustained aerial campaign against Russian energy infrastructure and military sites. Ukrainian drone strikes hit warehouses and other locations across Russia, killing nine people and wounding more than 60, PBS NewsHour reported. The campaign is aimed at undermining Moscow's war effort and making Russians feel the consequences of the Kremlin's invasion, according to PBS NewsHour.
