HERRIN — In any other year, winning the Southern Illinois River-to-River Conference Preview volleyball tournament wouldn't rate much surprise. This year it did, given the talent in the field, and Pinckneyville head coach Katie Shaneyfelt said she was particularly pleased with how her Panthers handled it, according to the Southern Illinoisan.
The preview tournament, hosted in Herrin, has become an early measuring stick for River-to-River Conference volleyball programs before league play gets underway in earnest. A title here doesn't decide anything for the regular season, but it tells a coach what she's got heading into it — and Shaneyfelt liked what she saw.
Full results from the rest of the bracket weren't detailed beyond the Panthers' run to the title. This desk will keep an eye on River-to-River volleyball as conference play opens across the county's gyms this fall.
