CARTERVILLE, Ill. — Community college is where high school rivals become teammates, and John A. Logan College's basketball program is proof, according to the Southern Illinoisan, as several local players return for a second year on the Volunteers' roster.
For southern Illinois kids who grew up battling each other across county lines — Marion against Herrin, Herrin against Carterville — pulling on the same jersey is its own kind of story. Logan has long served that role for the region: a landing spot close to home for talent that might otherwise scatter to bigger programs out of state.
