MARION, Ill. — Electric bikes and scooters are getting new ground rules in Illinois, and Williamson County riders will fall under them same as everyone else. Gov. JB Pritzker signed a law establishing who can ride the devices, where, and how fast, the Southern Illinoisan reported, with the rules set to take effect next year.
The measure doesn't name Williamson County specifically, but it will apply here as much as anywhere. County and municipal officials haven't yet said how they'll enforce or post the new limits locally; that detail wasn't in the available reporting.
For now, riders and parents buying a scooter for a teenager have a year's notice that the rules of the road are about to change. The American Times will follow up when local enforcement plans take shape.
