New Aldi Rising in Energy Signals Grocery Relief for Northwest County
Construction underway on discount grocer as residents look for more options closer to home

ENERGY, Ill. — Steel and concrete are going up along the edge of town, and for once it isn't another dollar store. A new Aldi grocery store is taking shape in Energy, according to the Southern Illinoisan, bringing another grocery option to residents of northwestern Williamson County.
For folks in Energy and the small towns nearby, a grocery trip has too often meant a drive out of town. Another storefront doesn't fix that on its own, but it's one more place to buy milk and bread closer to home.
The Southern Illinoisan reports the project is in the construction phase now. This bureau will keep watching the site — and the county's grocery gaps — as it develops.
