MARION — The diamonds at Mtn. Dew Park are about to trade bats for clubs. The Marion park will turn into a golf course in October, the Southern Illinoisan reports, continuing a tradition of golf finding its way onto baseball fields in the offseason.
Details on the format remain limited, but the conversion is the kind of low-key, high-turnout community event that fills a fall weekend in Marion without needing a big budget behind it. It's the sort of thing that gets neighbors talking to neighbors — which, on a beat that spends plenty of time in courtrooms and county board meetings, is a nice change of pace to report.
The American Times Press will have more on dates and details as Mtn. Dew Park firms up its October plans.
