MARION, Ill. — The mall that used to anchor shopping in this county keeps losing tenants, WPSD Local 6 reported, as businesses continue moving out of the Marion mall.
The station's reporting didn't name every business or give a total vacancy count, but the trend is the story: another round of storefronts standing empty at a retail center that once drew shoppers from across southern Illinois.
Where the next round of jobs and foot traffic lands is a question worth asking the next time the county board or the city council takes up economic development. For now, the empty storefronts are the answer nobody wanted.
