CARTERVILLE, Ill. — The Carterville Lions kicked off their volleyball season the way you want to Tuesday night, sweeping Sesser-Valier/Waltonville in straight sets, 25-20, 25-21, at home, according to the Southern Illinoisan.
Senior Layla Yates, sophomore Maya Griffin and junior Emi Ford did the heavy lifting up front, combining for 22 kills between them as the Lions controlled the net from the opening whistle. It was the season opener for both schools.
The Lions will look to build on the momentum as the schedule ramps up in the weeks ahead.
