Johnston City's Trey Johnson Commits to Illinois College Football
A late offer, and a hometown grad gets his shot
By Buddy "Friday Night" Cobb, Williamson County Bureau
JOHNSTON CITY, Ill. — It took longer than he expected, but Johnston City graduate Trey Johnson is headed to college football. Johnson has committed to play at Division III Illinois College in Jacksonville, the Southern Illinoisan reports.
The wait made the payoff sweeter. For a small-town kid, a Division III commitment is still a commitment — a chance to keep playing the game past graduation, on a roster instead of on the sideline of somebody else's story.
No further details on Johnson's position or expected role were included in initial reporting. Johnston City will be pulling for him from here.
