CARTERVILLE, Ill. — John A. Logan College's volleyball team begins its fall season the morning of Friday, Aug. 21, against Neosho County Community College out of Chanute, Kansas, with the opener set for Rockford, according to the Southern Illinoisan.
Football isn't the only fall sport kicking off that same Friday, and for Logan, a program built in a college town that's grown steadily on the strength of the school itself, the volleyball opener is one more marker of the fall sports calendar filling in around Carterville.
The Bureau's sports desk will carry results from the opener and follow the Volunteers as the season develops. For a county that's watched Logan turn into a real athletic and academic anchor over the years — not just a retraining ground for laid-off miners, though it's been that too — every season opener matters.
