MARION — A stretch of Illinois 37 in Williamson County closes to traffic starting Aug. 21, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced, part of a weekend-long closure that will send drivers hunting for detours around one of the county's main north-south routes.
IDOT did not detail in the announcement exactly which segment of the road or what work is prompting the shutdown, but the timing — a Friday start heading into the weekend — is the kind that catches commuters and weekend travelers off guard if they're not paying attention. Anyone who leans on Route 37 to get to work, church or the ballfield this weekend would do well to check IDOT's posted detour signs before they head out.
