MARION, Ill. — Drivers on Interstate 57 through Williamson and Franklin counties faced an overnight closure Monday night for a bridge improvement project, according to wfiwradio.com.
I-57 is the county's main artery, the road that carries Marion's retail traffic and everybody's commute to Carbondale or points north. A bridge closure on it, even overnight, is enough to send local drivers looking for back roads they haven't used since the last construction season.
The closure was announced ahead of time by project officials, as reported by wfiwradio.com. Motorists were advised to plan alternate routes for the affected stretch during the closure window.
