HERRIN, Ill. — A superintendent's job used to be filling classrooms and hiring teachers. Nathaniel Wilson's job, by his own telling, is watching the horizon.
Wilson, superintendent of Herrin Unit 4, told the Southern Illinoisan that being forward-thinking means preparing the district for changes that are already taking shape — not waiting for them to arrive on the doorstep.
The Southern Illinoisan report didn't detail every change Wilson has in mind, but the message from the top is plain enough: Herrin Unit 4 isn't treating today's classroom as the finish line. For families in this district, a superintendent looking past next semester is worth watching — and worth asking follow-up questions of, at the next board meeting.
