Herrin Council Names Animal Control Warden, Backs Downtown Redevelopment
Traffic change near junior high clears way for school expansion

HERRIN, Ill. — The Herrin City Council didn't waste a Monday night. Aldermen appointed a new animal control warden, approved a traffic change near Herrin Junior High to make room for the school's planned expansion, and gave their backing to a downtown redevelopment push, according to the Southern Illinoisan.
The traffic decision matters most to the families who walk these blocks every morning. A junior high expanding means somebody has to rework how cars and kids share the pavement, and the council chose to get ahead of it rather than patch it later.
The downtown redevelopment backing is thinner on detail so far, but it's one more sign the council isn't content to let its old business district sit still.
No word yet on funding specifics or a timeline for either the traffic project or the downtown effort. The Bureau will follow both as they move from council-room votes to street-level work.
