MARION, Ill. — High pressure is settling in over southern Illinois, bringing relentless sun and heat through the week, according to the National Weather Service.
Today, Sunday, will be sunny with a high near 94 degrees. Patchy fog is possible before 8 a.m. Light south winds will range from 1 to 12 mph.
Monday is where the real heat arrives. The forecast high is near 97 degrees, but the heat index will reach as high as 107. That combined number—what you actually feel on your skin—is the one to take seriously. Heat at that level demands respect: stay hydrated, check on neighbors and older friends, seek air conditioning.
Tuesday will be similar: sunny, with a high near 98 degrees.
No rain is expected through Tuesday. No severe weather threats. The hazard this week is the sustained heat. Williamson County knows the weather that matters isn't always the dramatic kind.
