MARION — After 26 years as a solo operation, Harbaugh's Cafe is opening a sister location on the square in Marion this week, the Southern Illinoisan reports.
A diner that's held on for a quarter century in this county has earned the right to expand on its own terms, and doing it downtown, on the square, says something about where the owners think the town's future is headed. The square has seen its share of empty storefronts over the years; a new breakfast counter with a familiar name is the kind of small, stubborn investment this county tends to notice and reward with loyalty.
Details on hours and opening-day specifics weren't fully spelled out in the initial report, but longtime regulars of the original Harbaugh's will know what to expect on the menu. Marion's downtown could use the foot traffic.
