CARTERVILLE — Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge has drawn hunters, anglers, and paddlers for generations. Soon it'll draw cyclists on a dedicated path, after the refuge received a federal grant for a bike path through the property, the Southern Illinoisan reports.
No timeline for construction was given in the initial reporting. For a county whose recreation economy leans hard on the refuge and its lake, any expansion of what the public can do out there is worth tracking — and worth asking, when the ribbon-cutting comes, exactly where the money went and what it bought.
