MARION, Ill. — Deaconess Illinois says it isn't giving up on bringing labor and delivery back to Marion, even after its plan fell one vote short of the threshold it needed from state board members to advance, according to the Southern Illinoisan.
A majority of the board backed the project — just not enough of one. Deaconess Illinois says it remains committed to restoring the service in Marion, moving forward with the effort after the close vote.
What that commitment looks like next — another vote, a revised application, a different path through the state's approval process — wasn't spelled out in what's been reported so far. For now, the record is what it is: a majority in favor, one vote shy, and a hospital saying it isn't done.
