MARION, Ill. — The heat is settling in hard over Williamson County. Tonight stays clear with a low around 75, temperatures actually rising through the night to 77. Saturday brings relentless sun with a high near 97, but the National Weather Service is calling heat index values as high as 106—that's what the air will feel like on your skin.
Sunday turns worse. Mostly sunny skies, a high near 99, but heat index readings reaching 109. Dangerous heat. The kind that can turn a workday into a threat if you're not watching yourself and your neighbors.
A small mercy comes Sunday night: a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 7 p.m. Nothing certain, but the possibility of relief. By Monday, that chance drops to 20 percent, and though the high falls to 90, you'll feel the difference.
No severe weather in the cards. This is about the heat—relentless, building through the weekend. Drink water. Check on the elderly. Stay in the shade when you can.
