County Eyes Handoff of Whiteash Sewer System to Johnston City
Commissioner Jim Marlo says it's time for the county to let the system go — details still to come

MARION, Ill. — Jim Marlo isn't waiting on anyone else to raise the subject. The county commissioner and his fellow board members believe it's time for Williamson County to hand off the former Whiteash sewer system, the Southern Illinoisan reports — with Johnston City named as the likely destination.
That's as far as the record goes right now. No vote count, no timeline, no dollar figure, and no word yet from Johnston City on whether it's ready to take the system on. This paper isn't going to pretend otherwise.
What's confirmed is simple: the county wants out of running the Whiteash sewer system, and Marlo is the commissioner saying so on the record.
The American Times will be watching the county board's agenda for a formal vote, and listening for Johnston City's side of it — because somebody's rates are eventually going to reflect whatever gets decided here, and the people who'd pay them deserve more than a one-line notice.
