MARION, Ill. — Clouds of color erupted over Marion on Saturday as runners took off from The HUB Recreation Center for the annual Colors for CASA of Southern Illinois race, the Daily Egyptian reported.
The 1.5-mile color run and walk is open to all ages, and this year's crowd again turned a fun run into a fundraiser for CASA — Court Appointed Special Advocates, the volunteers who stand up for kids caught in the county's abuse and neglect cases. It's the kind of race where the finish line photo tells you everything: powder-stained shirts, kids laughing, parents wiping color out of their hair for a week.
It's easy to treat a color run as just a Saturday morning novelty. But CASA's work in this county is anything but novelty — it's advocates showing up in courtrooms for children who otherwise have nobody in their corner. A messy 1.5 miles is a small price for that.
