HERRIN, Ill. — The Southern Illinois Coaches Association will gather in Herrin next Wednesday, Aug. 19, for its 62nd annual fall dinner and awards meeting, held at the Herrin Elks Lodge, according to the Southern Illinoisan.
Sixty-two years is a long run for any organization, and SICA's fall dinner has become something of a fixture on the local sports calendar — a chance for coaches from across the region to gather, hand out awards, and mark the start of another fall season before the whistles start blowing for real.
Herrin has hosted its share of regional gatherings over the years, and the Elks Lodge is a familiar setting for community events in a city that still runs on civic clubs and coal-town habits of showing up for each other.
Details on this year's award recipients weren't included in the announcement, but coaches and athletic staff from around the region are expected to fill the lodge for the occasion.
