Carterville's Todd Rogers Talks Shop as He Starts His Ninth Year
Principal, former athletic director, and IHSA rep still has a coach's eye for the game

CARTERVILLE — Folks around Carterville High School know Todd Rogers wears more hats than most in this business, and he's starting his ninth year with a couple more still on the rack.
Rogers, the school's principal, sat down with the Southern Illinoisan this past week to talk high school athletics from his seat as the district's representative to the Illinois High School Association. It's a natural perch for him — Rogers previously served as Carterville's athletic director and coached the girls basketball program before moving into the principal's office.
That kind of resume matters on IHSA business, where decisions about classifications, playoff formats and eligibility get made by people who've actually stood on a sideline. Rogers has stood on plenty of them.
Carterville fans have gotten used to seeing his name attached to just about every corner of Carterville athletics over the years. The Southern Illinoisan reports Rogers is "beginning his ninth" year — the interview doesn't specify ninth year as what, whether principal, IHSA rep, or something else on that crowded resume. Whatever the exact count is tied to, it points to a long run near the center of how sports get run in this district.
For a program that's watched its share of turnover in other corners of local sports, that kind of continuity is worth something.
