NASHVILLE, Ill. — Carterville isn't sneaking up on anybody this fall, not after the way it opened the season.
The Hornets blitzed the Roxana Shells 42-14 last Friday in both teams' season opener, the Southern Illinoisan reported, and now they carry that momentum into a road trip against the Washington County Nashville squad — a team the paper flagged as a possible contender to beat in the River-to-River Conference Mississippi Division this fall.
A 28-point opening win says as much about a team's ceiling as it does about its opponent. Carterville will be looking for the Hornets to prove Week 1 wasn't a mirage against a program with its own designs on the conference crown.
