Carterville Names Softball Field for Decorated Lion Caidence Phillips

Field No. 7 at James Street City Park now carries her name

CARTERVILLE, Ill. — Field No. 7 at James Street City Park has a new name: Caidence Phillips Field, honoring one of the most decorated softball players to ever wear the orange and blue for Carterville High School, the Southern Illinoisan reports.

Naming a field after a player is the kind of honor a small town gives sparingly, and Carterville chose to give it to a Lion who earned it on that very diamond.

Specifics on Phillips's career records and the dedication ceremony weren't detailed in initial reporting. What's certain is that every Carterville softball player who takes the field there now will do it on ground with her name on it.
