CARTERVILLE — The Lions are 5-0 on the scoreboard, but off the field their football coach is dealing with a fight that has nothing to do with X's and O's. The Carterville coach, currently on leave, is the subject of subpoenas from investigators, according to Capitol City Now.
Details of the investigation remain limited in the reporting, but the subpoenas mark a serious escalation for a program riding high this fall. Carterville enters the season having run past opponents on the strength of its passing game, and the timing — a winning team, a sidelined coach, subpoenas in hand — is the kind of contradiction this county knows how to sit with.
