Work begins next week, with the route expected shut down until 2026

JOHNSTON CITY, Ill. — A bridge project near Johnston City is set to begin next week, and the road it sits on will stay closed well past the ribbon-cutting stage, according to WSIL-TV.
WSIL-TV reports the closure tied to the project is expected to last until 2026, a long stretch for anyone who uses that stretch of road to get to work, to school, or to the hospital.
Bridge and culvert work across this county tends to move on its own clock, not the commuter's. Residents in and around Johnston City should plan for a long detour season and keep an eye out for posted alternate routes as the work gets underway.
