Body, Car Recovered From Crab Orchard Lake
Williamson County deputies pulled both from the water Saturday evening

CARTERVILLE, Ill. — Divers and deputies worked the shoreline at Crab Orchard Lake into Saturday evening, and by nightfall they had recovered what they'd come for: a body, and the car that went in with it.
The Williamson County Sheriff's Department announced the recovery Saturday evening, according to the Southern Illinoisan. Few details have been released so far — no name, no timeline for how car and driver ended up in the lake that generations of this county have fished, boated, and buried their bad days on.
Crab Orchard has always carried two faces. It's the refuge where families soak up the summer, and it's deep enough, old enough, to keep its secrets a while. The sheriff's department has not said whether foul play is suspected. The American Times Press will update this story as the department releases more.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Williamson County Sheriff's Department.
