MARION, Ill. — Bryan Questelle was standing at the Iwo Jima Marine Corps War Memorial on Monday when the trip home stopped going to plan. A medical emergency forced a change of pilot, and the Honor Flight chairman found himself improvising, according to the Southern Illinoisan.
When the return flight hit trouble, Questelle and his team had to adjust on the fly, the paper reported — a day that was supposed to run like clockwork instead turning into an overnight scramble.
Honor Flight has not said whether the delay will change how it plans future missions. For now, the story the Southern Illinoisan tells is simpler: a chairman thinking on his feet, keeping a mission built around gratitude from coming apart when the plan did.
